Homecoming is an important rite of passage in high school. It consists of dressing up and being a part of the activities, decorating the hallway/float with a theme your class chose and cheering for your home teams on the weekend.  An entire week of fun!

On the 15th of September, the four different classes at Centerville each choose a theme for their hallway/float that year. They decorate it, hoping they will earn the most points from the votes of teachers, visitors, parents, and even other students (although their class hopes that student votes for his/her own class)!

This year the Senior class picked the Prehistoric Age as their class theme.  The Juniors picked the Future to represent their class.  The Sophomore class comes from Greece, where ‘nike’ is common for them.  And lastly, the Freshies chose the Roman Empire as their class’s era.  We all hope they have fun decorating!!

After the hall decorating is done, the Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshies dress up every day, all week, starting the next school day.  This year the Seniors decided that the classes all needed a class color.

So the Seniors decided that because they think they are the best, they get red, white, and blue.  Next, the Juniors get brown, the Sophomores get gray, and the Freshmen get yellow. On Monday, September 18th, all the classes dress up in as much of their class color as possible.  The teachers judge on how much each student dresses up and adds up points to add onto the next day until the week is done.

Tuesday, the Seniors chose for the students to dress up in Hawaiian clothes.  We hope no one comes to school thinking they are going to a luau!  On Wednesday the students dress up in either fancy, formal clothes, or in a bum outfit.  Half the school will look as if they live under a bridge, and the other will look like they own an insurance company!

Thursday is Spirit Day.  You are encouraged to wear as much orange, black, and white as possible.  Even if it does count towards your class points, it is always great to dress in school colors the last school day before a big game.

On Thursday night, all the activities begin! At 6:30 we start the jersey auction, where the football and volleyball players put their jerseys up for sale and other people buy them to wear to their games. Some of those jerseys can be pretty spendy.

And the games start right after the auction.  The cheerleaders host the activities, which consist of the traditional “Lovers Leap,” “Frozen T-Shirt contest,” “Dizzy Run,” “Pickle Spit,” “Shaving Cream Cheetos Toss,” and “Reach For The Apple.”

Now comes the football and volleyball games, and the cross country meet.  The Centerville Miner football players will be versing the Simms Tigers for Homecoming. The Lady Miners will be playing the Fort Benton Longhorns the same day.  And Cross Country runners will be running the course in Havre, Montana.

We, as Centerville Miner fans, students, other players, and parents, wish the players luck in their games, and hope they win their Homecoming games!
